کراچی: نامور پاکستانی گلوکار و اداکار علی ظفر اور گلوکارہ میشا شفیع کی جانب سے ایک دوسرے پر الزامات کا سلسلہ جاری ہے میشا شفیع کی قانونی ٹیم نے علی ظفر سے غیر مشروط معافی کا مطالبہ کیا ہے۔

دو روز قبل ایک نجی ٹی وی کو انٹرویو دیتے ہوئے علی ظفر میشا شفیع کی جانب سے خود پر لگائے جانے والے جنسی ہراسانی کے الزامات پر بات کرتے ہوئے اپنے جذبات پر قابو نہ رکھ سکے تھے اور روپڑے تھے، تاہم علی ظفر کے آنسوؤں کا جواب میشا شفیع نے اپنی قانونی ٹیم کے توسط سے دیتے ہوئے ان سے عام معافی کا مطالبہ کیا ہے۔

میشا شفیع کی قانونی ٹیم میں شامل وکیل نگہت داد نے گلوکارہ کی جانب سے ٹوئٹر پر ایک بیان جاری کیا ہے جس میں میشا شفیع کا موقف بیان کرتے ہوئےکہا گیا ہے کہ علی ظفر نے میشا شفیع کو خاموش کرانے کے لیے ان کے خلاف ہتک عزت کا کیس فائل کیا، جب کہ ہتک عزت کا بہترین جواب ’’سچ‘‘ ہے اور میشا شفیع نے کبھی بھی علی ظفر کے خلاف بُرے الفاظ نہیں کہے لہٰذا میشا کو کسی بھی عدالت سے کسی بھی ہتک عزت کے لیے قصور وار نہیں ٹہرایا جاسکتا۔

بیان میں علی ظفر کی جانب سے میشا شفیع اورملالہ کے موازنے کو شرمناک قراردیاگیا، جب کہ یہ بھی کہاگیا ہے کہ میشا شفیع اورجنسی ہراسانی کی شکار ہونے والی دیگر خواتین پر حملے دراصل جنسی ہراسانی جیسے مسئلے کو خاموش کرانے کے لیے کیے جارہے ہیں یہی وجہ ہے کہ میشا قانونی طریقے سے انصاف حاصل کرنا چاہتی ہیں۔

افغانستان میں امن افغان عوام کے ذریعے ہی آسکتا ہے، شاہ محمود قریشی

 اسلام آباد: وزیر خارجہ شاہ محمود قریشی کا کہنا ہے کہ افغانستان میں امن افغانستان کے اپنے لوگوں کے ذریعے ہی آسکتا ہے۔

پاک افغان ٹریک ٹو ڈائیلاگ سیمینار سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے وزیرخارجہ شاہ محمود قریشی کا کہنا تھا کہ پاکستان اور افغانستان کے درمیان ٹریک ٹو مذاکرات ضروری ہیں، افغانستان پاکستان کے لیے کافی اہمیت کا حامل ہے، افغانستان سے اچھے تعلقات ہماری ترجیح ہے، افغانستان پاکستان ایکشن پلان فار پیس کو لاگو کرنا ہوگا تاکہ اعتماد سازی میں مدد مل سکے، افغانستان میں امن افغانستان کے اپنے لوگوں کے ذریعے ہی آسکتا ہے۔

شاہ محمود قریشی نے کہا کہ پاکستان افغانستان میں امن عمل میں امریکا کی تمام تر معاونت کر رہا ہے، انٹرا افغان ڈائیلاگ کے ذریعے ہی معاملات ٹھیک کیے جاسکتے ہیں، ٹریک ٹو مذاکرات حکومتوں کو قریب لانے کا موقع فراہم کرتے ہیں۔

وزیر خارجہ نے کہا کہ پاکستان افغان مفاہمتی عمل کا حامی اور سہولت کار ہے، دوحا میں ہونے والے مذاکرات کا التواء بدقسمتی ہے، پاکستان افغانستان میں انفراسٹرکچر کی بحالی کے لیے اپنا کردار ادا کر رہا ہے، حال ہی میں محمد علی جناح اسپتال کا کابل میں افتتاح کیا گیا جب کہ 50 ہزار سے زائد افغان طلبہ پاکستان میں تعلیم حاصل کرچکے ہیں۔

شاہ محمود قریشی نے کہا کہ افغان عوام نے کبھی تسلط برداشت نہیں کیا مگر دوستوں کا خیر مقدم کرتے ہیں، افغانستان میں پشتونوں کے علاوہ بھی لوگ بستے ہیں، سب ساتھ بیٹھیں، افغانستان پاکستان کو اپنے مشترکہ مفادات کا بخوبی اندازہ ہے، افغانستان میں جنگ ہوئی تو پاکستان نے کھلے ہاتھوں سے افغان بھائیوں کو اپنایا جب کہ کونسا افغان لیڈر ہے جس نے پاکستان میں اپنا گزر بسر نہ کیا ہو۔

نیمار کی اس حرکت پر کوچ تھامس نے شدید غصے کا اظہار کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ نیماریا کسی بھی فٹبالر کو یہ حرکت زیب نہیں دیتی، یہ درست ہے کہ شکست کے بعد کچھ اچھا نہیں لگتا، لیکن اسپورٹس مین سپرٹ کا تقاضا ہے کہ  ہمیں تماشائیوں کو ہر صورت میں احترام دینا ہےاور اپنا رویہ مثالی بناناہے۔

ذرائع کے مطابق پنجاب اسمبلی کے اجلاس کے لئے مسلم لیگ (ن) کے 3 معطل اراکین کا اسمبلی میں داخلہ بند کر دیا گیا ہے، اس حوالے سے اسپیکر پنجاب اسمبلی چوہدری پرویز الہٰی کی ہدایت پر اسمبلی سیکرٹریٹ نے عظمی بخاری، اشرف رسول اور عبدالرؤف کی تصاویر سیکیورٹی عملے کو جاری کردیں ہیں، سکیورٹی عملے کو تینوں لیگی اراکین کو اسمبلی میں داخل ہونے سے روکنے کی ہدایات جاری کی گئی ہیں۔ پابندی کے بعد تینوں لیگی اراکین رواں سیشن کے دوران اجلاس میں شرکت نہیں کرسکیں گے۔

واضح رہے کہ اسمبلی اجلاس کے دوران ڈپٹی اسپیکر کے ساتھ تلخ کلامی کے باعث عظمی بخاری، اشرف رسول اور عبدالرؤف کی رکنیت معطل کی گئی تھی۔

سیاست دانوں کے ہاتھوں جمہوریت کی نجکاری

راقم الحروف کو کہنے دیجیے کہ ہر زمانے کے رنگ نرالے ہوتے ہیں۔ کیوں نہ ہوں، اس لیے کہ ہر صدی کے ہر زمانے کے ہر معاشرے میں کچھ واقعات ایسے گزرے ہیں کہ جو رہتی دنیا تک تاریخ کا حصہ بن گئے ہیں۔ اہل دانش متفق ہیں کہ انسان کی جبلت میں شامل ہے کہ وہ کچھ انوکھا کر دکھائے، یہی وجہ ہے کہ تاریخ انسانی کی کتاب کے اوراق اچھے بُرے حالات و واقعات سے بھرے پڑے ہیں جن کا مقصد آنے والوں کےلیے سبق اور اُن کے مستقبل کو گزرے کل اور آج سے بہتر بنانا ہے۔

معذرت قبل اَز گفت، ساری باتیں اور نظریات و خیالات اپنی جگہ ٹھیک، مگر اس میں بھی کوئی شک نہیں کہ حرام مال سے نیک عمل بھی خاک ہے؛ اور حق و سچ کی حمایت کرنے کے بجائے دنیاوی چمک دمک کے حصول کی لالچ سے جھوٹے کو سچ ثابت کرنا اور کرانا، اصل میں گمراہ اور جھوٹے کی حوصلہ افزائی کرنے کے مترادف ہے۔ حق و سچ کی حمایت کرنے والے کےلیے لازم ہے کہ وہ انسان لالچ سے پاک اور ایماندار ہو۔ اس کے بغیر کوئی خواہ کتنا ہی مقبول اور شہرت یافتہ کیوں نہ ہو، وہ حق و سچ کی موٹروے پر حق کا عَلم اُٹھا کر نہیں بھاگ سکتا۔ اہل علم ودانش کہتے ہیں کہ انسانوں کی جبلت میں لالچ جسم میں گردش کرتے خون کی طرح شامل ہے، انسان نے اپنی ضرورتوں کا حاجت روا پیسے کو مان لیا ہے۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ تمام زمانوں کے انسانوں کی مجبوری پیسہ رہا ہے، جبکہ آج کا جیتا جاگتا سانس لیتا انسان تو مادہ پرستی میں ایسا غرق دکھائی دیتا ہے کہ جیسے اس میں جائز و ناجائز اور اچھے بُرے کی تمیز ختم ہوکر رہ گئی ہو۔ آج اس سے بغیر پیسہ اور مطلب اچھائی کی توقع اور اُمید رکھنا صدی کا مذاق بن گیا ہے۔

غرض یہ کہ مادہ پرستی نے اکیسویں صدی کے انسان کی عقل پر پردہ اور آنکھوں پر ایسی سیاہ پٹی باندھ رکھی ہے کہ آج کے انسان کو پٹی کے اندر سے بھی سوائے روپے پیسے کے کچھ اور دکھائی نہیں دیتا۔ آج کی دنیا میں انسان کے بنائے ہوئے ہر ایک شعبے میں، ہر معاملے میں انسان نے خود کو پیسے کے تابع کر رکھاہے؛ خواہ شعبہ تعلیم، صحت، سیاست، معیشت، قانون و انصاف، تخلیق و تحقیق، تعمیر و تعمیرات ہو یا شعبہ صحافت، تمام شعبہ ہائے زندگی میں پیسہ ہی حاجت روا اور (نعوذ باللہ) خدا کا درجہ رکھنے لگا ہے۔ تب ہی دنیا کی تہذیبوں، مُلکوں اور معاشروں میں بگاڑ پیدا ہورہا ہے۔ آج کے دور میں دولت مندوں کے ہاتھوں میں جو پیسہ ہے، وہ اسے انسانوں کی تقدیر بنانے اور بگاڑنے کےلیے ایسے استعمال کررہے ہیں جیسے یہی تقدیرانسانی کے بڑے دیوتا ہیں۔

معاف کیجیے گا، میرے دیس پاکستان میں آف شور کمپنیوں کے مالکان پانامے و اقامے اور جعلی بینک اکاؤنٹس سے اربوں کھربوں مُلکی دولت لوٹ کھانے والوں نے بھی ایسا عمل جاری رکھا ہوا ہے۔

انہوں نے مُلکی سیاست میں جمہوریت کا لبادہ اُڑھ کر اپنے کالے دھن کو قومی و نجی اداروں اور بیرون ممالک میں اپنی جائیدادیں بنانے میں کچھ اس طرح سے انویسٹ کیا ہوا ہے کہ آج جدھر دیکھو، ہر جانب سے ان کا ہی پیسہ نکلتا اور بولتا ہوا نظر آرہا ہے۔ قومی لٹیروں اور مجرموں کا پیسہ اس طرح سے اداروں سے بولتا اور چیختا چلاتا سامنے آرہا ہے جیسے کہ ادھر قومی مجرموں نے جانتے بوجھتے ہوئے، پہلے سے اپنے بچاؤ کےلیے سرمایہ کاری کررکھی ہے تاکہ جب کبھی، کہیں سے بھی احتساب کا ڈنڈا چلے یا کوئی آواز ان کے خلاف بلند ہو، تو پھر ان قومی لٹیروں اور مجرموں کو احتساب سے بچانے کےلیے ان کے چیلے چانٹے ان کی حمایت میں نکل کھڑے ہوں۔ اَب ایسا منظر روز دیکھنے کو مل رہا ہے۔

یعنی کہ آج قومی لیٹروں کے حق میں ان کا پیسہ تو پیسہ، اَب تو لفافے اور لفافے والے بھی ان کےلیے بولتے اور آہ و فغاں کرتے دکھائی دیتے ہیں۔ اگر یقین نہ آئے تو کسی بھی روز اپنا الیکٹرونک میڈیا دیکھ لیجیے، پتا چل جائے گا کہ کہاں کہاں قومی لٹیروں اور مجرموں کا پیسہ اور بھاری بھرکم لفافے لے کر کون کون احتسابی اداروں سے انہیں بچانے کےلیے کیسے چیخ چلا رہا ہے! لوٹی ہوئی قومی دولت کی واپسی کےلیے گھیرا تنگ ہورہا ہے۔ یہ دولت جس نے بھی لوٹی ہے، بیشک وہ قومی مجرم ہے۔ اسے قومی جرم کی کڑی سزا ضرور ملنی چاہیے۔

مگر اس معاملے میں دیر کیوں ہورہی ہے؟ یہ بات کچھ سمجھ نہیں آرہی؛ جب کہ، اس کے برعکس، کوئی غریب ننگا بھوکا پیٹ کی آگ بجھانے کےلیے ایک روٹی چوری کرلے تو قانون اور انصاف کے ادارے فوراً حرکت میں آکر غریب روٹی چور کو زندگی بھر کےلیے جیل کی سلاخوں کے پیچھے بند کردیتے ہیں۔ مگر حیرت کی بات یہ ہے کہ ابھی تک حکومت و قانون اور انصاف و احتساب کرنے والے ادارے اربوں اور کھربوں قومی دولت لوٹ کھانے والوں کو ضمانتوں پر رہائی کی سہولیات فراہم کرکے انہیں کیوں رعایت پر رعایت دے رہے ہیں؟ جب قومی لٹیروں کے خلاف تمام شواہد موجود ہیں تو پھر کسی ڈیل کےلیے حکومت کی ڈھیل کیوں ہے؟ ہمارے سیاست دانوں نے جمہوریت کو بھی اپنے مفادات کےلیے اپنے پیسے کی طاقت سے خرید لیا ہے۔

آج ہمارا کوئی بھی سیاست دان یا حکمران بتادے کہ اس نے پچھلی دو دہائیوں میں اپنے اور اپنی پارٹی یا اپنی ہم خیال سیاسی جماعتوں کے سوا کتنے جمہوری ثمرات عوام الناس تک منتقل کیے ہیں؟ تو یقیناً جواب صفر در صفر آئے گا، کیوں کہ کسی نے بھی اصل معنوں میں جمہوری ثمرات عوام الناس تک اس طرح نہیں پہنچائے جس کا تقاضا جمہوریت کرتی ہے۔

پاکستانی قوم کی بدقسمتی ہے کہ اسے اب تک جتنے حکمران اور سیاست دان بھی ملے ہیں، سب نے جمہوریت کی تعریف اپنے مفادات کو سامنے رکھ کر ہی کی ہے؛ اور جمہوریت کو اپنے ذاتی اور سیاسی مفاداتی طبقے تک تقسیم کیا ہے، اور اس کے ثمرات کو اپنے مفادات تک محدود رکھا ہے… کیوں کہ انہوں نے ہمیشہ عام انتخابات میں سرمایہ کاری کی اور جمہوریت کو اپنی ’’انویسمنٹ‘‘ سے خریدا ہے۔ یہاں ہمیں یہ ضرور تسلیم کرنا پڑے گا کہ جب ایسا ہوگا تو پھر سیاستدانوں اور حکمرانوں کی جمہوریت بھی پرائیویٹ سیکٹر میں ہی چلے گی۔ جس طرح آج کل ہمارے سرمایہ کار، سیاست دان اور حکمران، جمہوریت کو اپنے اپنے مفادات کےلیے، اپنے جیسے طبقے کےلیے استعمال کررہے ہیں، اسے دیکھ کر یہی کہا جاسکتا ہے کہ آج اسی وجہ سے ہمارے مُلک کا غریب، جمہور اور جمہوری ثمرات سے محروم ہے۔

یقین جانیے کہ اَب تو بنیادی حقوق سے محروم مفلوک الحال غریب پاکستانی جمہوریت کی ایک جھلک کو بھی ترس رہا ہے۔

اَب جب تک آف شور کمپنیوں کے مالکان اور جعلی بینک اکاؤنٹس سے اربوں کھربوں قومی دولت لوٹ کھانے والے حکمرانوں اور سیاست دانوں سے ملک پاک نہیں ہوجاتا؛ اُس وقت تک ہمارے ہر ادارے میں پیسہ اور لفافہ بولتا رہے گا؛ اور ہر الیکشن میں سرمایہ کاری ہوتی رہے گی۔ یوں جمہوریت سیاست دانوں اور حکمرانوں کے ہاتھوں بکتی رہے گی اور سیاست دان جمہوریت کو پرائیویٹ (نجی) طور پر اپنی مرضی سے، اپنے لیے استعمال کرتے رہیں گے۔ جبکہ عوام الناس کو جمہوری ثمرات سے محروم رکھیں گے کیوں کہ میرے مُلک کے دولت مند سیاست دانوں نے پیسے سے جمہوریت کو بھی خرید لیا ہے۔

ذہنی تناؤ میں کھانا، موٹاپے کو بڑھانا

آسٹریلیا: اگر آپ کھانا کھاتے وقت اکثر پریشان اور ذہنی تناؤ کے شکار رہتے ہیں تو اس کا نتیجہ زائد وزن اور موٹاپے کی صورت میں بھی نکل سکتا ہے۔

اگرچہ ماہرین اس متعلق ایک عرصے سے کہتے آرہے ہیں کہ ذہنی تناؤ انسان کو اندھا دھند کھانے کی جانب راغب کرتا ہے اور یوں وزن میں اضافہ ہوتا ہے لیکن اب چوہوں ر کئے گئے تجربات سے اس کے ثبوت مل گئے ہیں۔ اگرچہ بعض افراد ایسے بھی دیکھے گئے جو ذہنی تناؤ(اسٹریس) میں کم کھاتے ہیں لیکن اکثریت اس کیفیت میں زیادہ کھاتی ہے۔

آسٹریلیا کے شہرڈارلنگ ہرسٹ میں واقع گارون انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف میڈیکل ریسرچ نےتجربہ گاہ میں چوہوں پرغورکیا اور اس کی تفصیلات سیل میٹابولزم میں شائع ہوئی ہیں۔ تحقیق کے دوران یہ بھی معلوم ہوا ہے کہ تناؤ کے دوران انسولین کی دماغی رہ گزر سرگرم ہوجاتی ہے اور انسانی موٹاپے کی جانب مائل ہوتا ہے۔ اسی طرح اگر ذہنی تناؤ میں کیلوریز سے بھرپور مرغن کھانا کھایاجائے تو وزن میں تیزی سے بڑھنا شروع ہوجاتا ہے۔

ماہرینِ نفسیات کا اصرار ہے کہ ذہنی تناؤ کے شکار ان کے مریضوں میں غذا کا توازن بگڑجاتا ہے اور کھانے کا انتخاب بھی تبدیل ہوجاتا ہے۔ وہ متوازن غذا چھوڑکر زیادہ کیلیوری والی خوراک کی جانب مائل ہوتے ہیں۔

اب اس کی سائنسی وجہ جان لیجئے کہ ڈپریشن اور پریشانی میں جسم سے کارٹیسول ہارمون کا اخراز ہوتا ہے جو بھوک بڑھاتا ہے اور انسان چینی، چکنائی اور روغنیات سے بھرپور کھانے کی جانب راغب ہوتا ہے جسے اسٹریس ایٹنگ بھی کہتے ہیں۔ تاہم ایک سے دوسرے شخص میں اس کا رحجان، کیفیت اور شدت مختلف ہوسکتی ہے۔

اس طرح کی کیفیت میں اندھا دھند کھانے سے لوگ تیزی سے موٹاپے کی طرف جاتے ہیں۔ اسی بنا پر ڈاکٹروں کا مشورہ ہے کہ تناؤ میں کھانے سے سیر نہ ہوں اور کچھ جگہ ضرور رکھیں لیکن کیوں نہ تناؤ سے چھٹکارے کی ہر تدبیر اختیار کی جائے کیونکہ یہ جسم و دماغ دونوں کے لیے ایک وبال ہی ہے۔

امریکی شاہراہ پر بکھرنے والے 30 ہزار ڈالر میں سے معمولی رقم واپس مل سکی

نارتھ کیرولائنا: گرانڈ ہیون پر یو ایس 31 ہائی وے پر ایک وین ہزاروں ڈالر کیش لے کر جارہی تھی کہ اس کا پچھلا دروازہ کھل گیا اور اس میں سے دھیرے دھیرے نوٹ گرنے لگے یہاں تک کہ 30 ہزار ڈالر شاہراہ پر اڑگئے جو پاکستانی روپوں میں 42 لاکھ 30 ہزار روپے کے برابر ہے۔

شہر کے شعبہ عوامی تحفظ کے مطابق پولیس نے بعض لوگوں کو شاہراہ پر نوٹ جمع کرتے ہوئے دیکھا جس کے بعد انہیں نوٹ بکھرنے کا معلوم ہوا۔ اس کے بعد پولیس نے تھوڑی دیر کے لیے شاہراہ بند کردی اور بعض لوگوں کے ساتھ ملکر رقم جمع کرنا شروع کردی۔

تفصیلات کے مطابق رقم کے بکسوں میں سے ایک ویگن سے گرکر کھل گیا جس میں رکھے نوٹ پوری شاہراہ پر تیزی سے بکھرنے لگے۔ اس طرح لگ بھگ 30 ہزار ڈالر ہوا میں اڑگئے۔  پہلے مرحلے میں پولیس نے مدد کرنے والے لوگوں سے 2470 ڈالر جمع کئے اور اس کے بعد محکمہ پولیس نے عوام سے رقم واپس کرنے کی  باضابطہ درخواست کی۔

لیکن ان سب کے باوجود ایک خاتون نے 3880 ڈالر واپس گئے جبکہ ایک 17 سالہ لڑکے نے 630 ڈالر کی رقم جمع کرائی۔ تاہم لوگوں کی اکثریت نے رقم واپس نہیں کی تاہم پولیس نے ایماندار افراد کی حوصلہ افزائی کی اور ان کے کردار کو سراہا۔

Barr threatens to skip House hearing on Mueller report over format dispute

Attorney general has expressed objections to House judiciary committee’s questioning format, according to Democratic aide The US attorney general, William Barr, is scheduled to testify before the House judiciary panel, chaired by the Democrats, on Thursday. Photograph: Jonathan Ernst/Reuters The Department of Justice (DoJ) has informed the powerful House of Representatives judiciary committee that the attorney general, William Barr, may not attend a Thursday hearing to review special counsel Robert Mueller’s report of the Trump-Russia investigation. Barr has expressed objections over the panel’s questioning format, according to a senior Democratic committee aide. The department has balked at the panel’s plans to allow committee counsels from both sides to question Barr after the traditional round of questioning by members of Congress who sit on the committee, which is currently chaired by the Democrats because they control the House. Justice officials also told the committee they opposed committee chairman Jerry Nadler’s plan to go into closed session if members want to discuss redacted portions of Mueller’s report. That’s also according to the aide, who requested anonymity to discuss the confidential communications with the justice department. Barr is scheduled to testify on Wednesday before the Senate judiciary committee, which is chaired by the Republicans, the party in control of the Senate, and to the House panel on Thursday. The redacted Mueller report was made public just over a week ago. While it concluded there was not enough evidence to charge members of the Trump campaign with criminal conspiracy between the organisation and Russia, it also determined there was a lot of contact, and that Russia conclusively interfered in the 2016 election. Democrats the following day issued a subpoena for the un-redacted version. The report also found that it could not exonerate the president on the question of obstruction of justice and if Mueller could he would have done so, while also stating the investigation would not reach a conclusion on whether there had been criminal obstruction. The DoJ has deemed that a sitting president cannot be indicted. Congress is now conducting further inquiries and a number of other criminal investigations are ongoing, including by federal prosecutors in New York, against the president, though the nature of most of the investigations has not been made public. This article was amended on 29 April, to reflect that the Mueller report concluded there was not sufficient evidence to bring charges of criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia, and that the investigation would not reach a conclusion on whether there had been criminal obstruction.

Man arrested after knives found at school desk of only male heir to Japanese imperial throne

Japanese police on Monday arrested a 56-year-old man in connection with two paring knives found at the school desk of Prince Hisahito, grandson of Emperor Akihito, local media reported. The incident comes as authorities were beefing up security ahead of the popular emperor's abdication on Tuesday after a 30-year reign, the first monarch to relinquish the throne of the world's oldest imperial family for two centuries. Akihito's eldest son, 59-year-old Crown Prince Naruhito, will take the throne on Wednesday in a series of ceremonies. Hisahito is the son of Naruhito's younger brother and the last eligible male heir. Japan's centuries-old succession would be broken if Hisahito does not have a male child as the Imperial Household Law, in place since 1947, does not allow women to ascend the Chrysanthemum Throne. Japan's Imperial family The suspect, identified as Kaoru Hasegawa, was arrested on suspicion of illegally entering the premises of the junior high school the 12-year-old prince attends on Friday, public broadcaster NHK and other news reports said. His motive was not immediately clear. NHK said police officials were questioning him and suspected he placed the knives at the desk, while Nippon Television said he admitted the allegations. A police spokesman declined to comment. Hisahito, who began attending the school this month, was not in the classroom when the knives are believed to have been left. There were no reports of any injuries or damage at the school, while police did not find any threatening note related to the case. Security camera footage showed a man with a helmet trespassing on the school grounds at around noon, they said. Police had been searching for the middle-aged man who was dressed as a construction worker. Threats to the imperial family are relatively rare. In 1975, Akihito was almost hit by a Molotov cocktail in Okinawa, a major World War II battlefield where there was strong anti-emperor sentiment.

Earnest, who was charged with murder Sunday as the lone gunman in the deadly Poway Synagogue shooting, played piano for hours a day and earned a 4.31 grade point average. His father was a church elder whom neighbors called “the sweetest man.”But somewhere on his path, Earnest took a terrible turn, claiming Adolf Hitler as an idol and writing what appears to be his own rambling manifesto that Jews “deserved nothing but hell.” He wanted to be the one to, as he put it, “Send. Them. There.”Police say someone purporting to be him posted the anti-Semitic, Islamophobic, white supremacist “manifesto”—which eerily mirrored the Q&A; style that Christchurch terrorist Brenton Tarrant used in his own pre-massacre diatribe—about 20 minutes before he walked into the Poway synagogue with an AR-15 style assault rifle and started shooting—killing one woman and injuring three others—before the gun malfunctioned and he was chased out by an armed security guard.Earnest was arrested by police a few minutes after the shooting as he fled, called 911, and told them where to find him off an exit on a California highway, authorities said. As an officer approached, he exited his vehicle, raised his hands, and surrendered. A rifle was recovered from the car. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday on one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.In his online posting, Earnest championed the likes of Robert Bowers, who fatally shot 11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue shootings in Pittsburgh six months ago, Tarrant, who killed 50 people in a New Zealand mosque in March; and Hitler.He used mainstream social media like Twitter and the fringe message boards 8Chan in what has become a proven way for terrorist groups and lone wolves alike to ensure that propaganda is disseminated to both those looking for it and those who are not. He posted the original screed on Pastebin.com and Mediafire.com, and linked to them on 8Chan. Like Tarrant, he promised to live-stream his killing spree, which he evidently failed to pull off. Facebook immediately removed the profile link he intended to use, but had somehow not seen the warning signs when he created the page.Sheriff William Gore of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said during a press conference late Sunday that authorities were carrying out searches in the suspect’s home and “looking into digital evidence and checking the authenticity of an online manifesto.” If it is validated as authentic, the student, who was previously unknown to police, found footing in the usual tenets of hate and the now all-too-familiar desire for infamy. Zach Keele, pastor of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, where Earnest’s father was an elder, or officer of the church, confirmed that he was part of the parish. “So John T. Earnest is a member here,” he told The Daily Beast. “We completely deplore what he did. That is not part of our practices, our teachings in any way. Our hearts, our prayers, our tears go out to the victims, to all those wonderful neighbors at the synagogue.”Keele said Earnest had never appeared to be the sort of person who would carry out this sort of an attack. “This is a complete surprise,” he said.In a service at the church on Sunday, Keele delivered a sermon on betrayal and forgiveness, offering condolences to the victims–but also to Earnest’s family. “We pray, Lord, for those who are hurting, and we pray for the victims of that synagogue,” Keele told the crowd of 50 or so parishioners. “We deeply mourn that this evil came out from us. We do not understand it, oh Lord, and we pray that you would forgive us for any such shortcoming, for any good deeds we left undone. We pray, Lord, that you will be with the Earnest family.”Speaking to his congregation after the service, Keele said he had spoken with Earnest’s parents the night before. They had spent the night huddled in their other son’s apartment close to the beach while their own house was searched by SWAT teams, he said. Earnest’s father plans to release a statement Monday morning through an attorney. “It’s a good statement,” Keele said. “They have good family support.”The minister added that Earnest must “suffer the full punishment of the law.” Still, he hopes he will “recant his hatred.” Keele plans to visit the young man in prison, if convicted, he said. After the service, Gerrit Groenewold, a board member at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church who happens to be the father of the girlfriend of one of Earnest’s brothers, told The Daily Beast that he had noticed Earnest had seemed quiet, and often tried to reach out to the young man, but with little luck. “I have tried to talk to John several times, but he is very silent and very reclusive. I noticed that he was quiet and just wanted to have contact... The other [members of his family] are not nearly as quiet,” he said. “It’s not good if someone is that quiet. He needs to be part of the community, to let them know what is going on.”Earnest also claimed responsibility for an attempted arson attack last month on Dar-ul-Arqam Mosque in Escondido, about nine miles from Poway, Security cameras at the mosque caught a suspect breaking a lock and pouring liquid on a side door but had failed to identify the person. Gore said investigators are now looking his “possible involvement in the arson and vandalism of mosque.”In a comment that was left after the synagogue shooting, someone asks, “How does a child of such privilege go so horribly wrong? Haynes confirmed that Earnest had been enrolled at the its nursing school.“We are dismayed and disheartened that the alleged shooter—now in custody—is a CSUSM student. CSUSM is working collaboratively with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to assist and gain more information,” Haynes said in a statement. “We are heartbroken by this tragedy, which was motivated by hate and anti-Semitism.”A man who identified himself as Earnest’s grandfather expressed shock at his grandson’s role in the deadly shooting on Saturday.“He did what?” the man told The Daily Beast when reached by phone. “That is out of whack. My heart is sinking into my chest. I’m going to hang up now.” By Saturday evening, police had barricaded the streets leading to the cul-de-sac in Rancho Peñasquitos, a hilly, middle-class suburb of San Diego about seven miles from the synagogue where Earnest lives with his family. More than three dozen law enforcement officers, including FBI agents, ATF agents, and cops, were at the scene. Eyewitnesses told The Daily Beast that the family left their home under police escort hours earlier.  Around 9 p.m. local time, law enforcement had secured a search warrant to enter Earnest’s house, which may well confirm the authenticity of his hate-filled screed and could possibly uncover how far he was willing to act on his hate. According to Vox, Spain’s new hard-Right force, today’s general elections are about the survival of Spain as a national entity. Most European observers, however, will be looking to see how strongly Spain’s forces of moderation can survive the first real assault of Right-wing, anti-immigration and slightly Eurosceptical populism the country has experienced. With no elections due this year in any of Europe’s biggest nations, all eyes are today on Spain as a bellwether for next month’s European Parliament poll, in which populist movements are expected to make a bigger impact than ever. Spain, despite its political fragmentation that has brought about this, its third election in less than four years, has been making solid economic progress in the past half-decade, while also putting order in its public finances. With unemployment still close to 15 per cent, the economy might have been expected to feature prominently in the campaign. But instead Spaniards have been beaten around the head with the strategic importance of the country’s first general election since the Catalan regional government’s unconstitutional referendum and declaration of independence in 2017. Despite the fact that his Socialist party (PSOE) minority government fell because Catalan pro-independence parties withdrew their confidence and supply support, the incumbent Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has been accused of betraying Spain for trying to launch a negotiation process with Catalonia’s leaders. The main opposition conservative Popular Party (PP) and liberal Ciudadanos have been joined in rage at Mr Sánchez’s search for a Catalan compromise by Vox, which polled just 0.2 per cent in 2016, but is expected to surge into Congress today with around a tenth of the seats. Spanish politics has been split into two blocs by the Catalan issue, with Mr Sánchez and his PSOE’s only hope of a stable coalition partner lying in the hard-Left Podemos. Ciudadanos and PSOE have previously sought coalition deals together, but the polarisation over Catalonia is such that the liberal party’s leader, Albert Rivera, prefers to look to Vox for support. According to polling, it is very possible that neither bloc will make it over the line. The PSOE-Podemos alliance could seek to woo pragmatic Basque nationalists, but Mr Sánchez will hope not to have to rely on Catalan parties again. While a Left-wing government could serve to take the sting out of the Catalan independence movement, the PP, Ciudadanos and Vox have competed to take the strongest line against separatism. All three back a prolonged suspension of Catalonia’s autonomy, plus measures to either ban or limit the political freedom of pro-independence parties. A third scenario is political stasis from an impossible hung parliament. This may not be the last general election in Spain this year.

The controversial professor Jordan Peterson has said Cambridge University is "unprofessional" after he found out the institution had stripped him of a fellowship via Twitter. Dr Peterson, who will be speaking at a sold-out show at the Hammersmith Apollo next month, said he felt "sorrow" and "shock" over the decision, which came as Cambridge academics lambasted the university for inviting him. Many have dismissed the views of the Canadian psychologist, who has hundreds of thousands of fans and styles himself as the "professor against political correctness". He has argued for enforced monogamy, pushed the view that men are victims of gender discrimination, and said that the idea of white privilege is a “Marxist lie.” The professor has also come under fire for posing in a photograph next to a man in a shirt with the slogan "proud Islamaphobe". However, he has said the university was wrong to strip him of his visiting fellowship, telling the Sunday Times magazine: "It was unprofessional in a way that is almost incomprehensible to me. I can't believe how it was handled." The professor added that the decision it reflects the general attitude of universities and their "continual, quasi-Marxist assault" on the "foundational ideas of our culture." He also defended sacked government advisor Roger Scruton, who was relieved of his position on the Building Better Building Beautiful Commission over remarks he made about Islamophobia and the Chinese government. Dr Peterson said Mr Scruton was "witch-hunted" out of his position, adding: "It's not surprising, this kind of thing happens all the time now. "People make mistakes, they're taken out of context. If the rule is going to be that if you have ever said anything that could be interpreted as offensive by the minority, no matter how small - I don't mean ethnic, I mean minority of people - you are no longer fit for public office or public discussion or anything of significance, then how the hell are you going to escape that?"
